This is one of our favorite coffee recipes. Give it a try.
This recipe makes 8 servings.
For this recipe you will need the following ingredients
4 cups freshly brewed strong coffee (made from 6 cups water and 2 ½ cups ground French roast coffee)
1 cup sugar
1 tbsp grated orange peel
1 tbsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp sambuca or other anise-flavored liqueur
Preparation
Stir the first 4 ingredients in a bowl until the sugar dissolves. Pour the mixture into a 13×9×2-inch metal pan & chill it for 2 hours; then mix in the Sambuca.
Freeze the coffee mixture until it begins to get icy at the edge of the pan. This should take about 45 minutes. Once ice begins to form at the edge of the pan, whisk the mixture to distribute the frozen portions evenly then freeze it again until it again gets icy at edge of pan and overall texture is slushy. This should take an additional 45 minutes. Again whisk the mixture to distribute the frozen portions evenly. Then freeze it until solid This should take about 3 hours. Using a fork, scrape the granita down the length of the pan, forming icy flakes. Freeze at least 1 hour. (Can be made 1 day ahead of time. Be sure to cover and keep frozen.)
Serve with White Chocolate Sambuca Cream.

Coffee and Orange Granita Suprema
You don't need an ice cream maker to make this icy treat. Be sure to serve along with Amaretti or other Italian cookies.
This recipe makes 6 servings
For this recipe you will need the following Ingredients
4 cups hot espresso or strong coffee made with ground espresso coffee beans
½ cup sugar
1 tsp grated orange peel
1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
¾ cup well-chilled whipping cream
3 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp Grand Marnier or other orange liqueur
Milk chocolate curls, thin orange peel strips (twisted)
Preparation
Mix the coffee, ½ cup sugar, grated orange peel, and ground cinnamon in medium size bowl until the sugar dissolves. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature then transfer the mixture to a "loaf" pan. Freeze it until the granita has the consistency of shaved ice, stirring the mixture with a fork and breaking the frozen edge pieces every 30 minutes or so. This should take about 3 hours. (Granita can be made up to 6 hours ahead of time. If possible, stir the mixture every 30 minutes to 1 hour. Before serving, blend the mixture in a processor to break up any ice.)
Beat the chilled whipping cream and 3 tbsp of sugar in a medium size bowl until soft peaks begin to form then add the Grand Marnier and again beat until soft peaks form. Spoon the granita into serving bowls and top each dessert with a dollop of whipped cream. Garnish with the chocolate curls and orange peel strips and serve immediately.

Wow! That is a lot of detail on the Granita. It actually sounds like it might be a good idea on a warmer day. My wife and I will try it in the next couple of weeks and I will post back here on our results . Good stuff.
